Record Year for Infrastructure Debt Issuance

2024 saw the highest amount of debt issued for infrastructure projects ever. This amount was more than twice the issuance in 2020.

The main reasons for this surge in infrastructure debt issuance were:

  1. The increasing need for new infrastructure in the US, including energy, digital and transportation infrastructure.
  2. Government programs like the US Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act.
  3. Increased institutional demand given the asset class’s historically predictable, often regulated cash flows.
